Restaurants: Burebista
We don't recommend this place to vegetarians. No way. What you'll find here is a paradise of venison and... all sorts of cooked meat. There are already three locations included in the "Burebista" chain of restaurants, the first one was opened in 1998. Beside the one in Batiste Street - with venison specialties, there are also a Romanian traditional one and one that serves mostly fish.
The decorations inside the restaurant combine the medieval style - armours, flags and coats of arms with a more traditional hunter's-like style with massive furniture and stuffed animales all around the place.

Service is great and the menu is just...well, extremely diverse. Only appetizers are spread over one full page with some delicious combinations we hardly ever heard of: deer and fruit in aspic sauce - 14 RON, wild boar in Tartar sauce - 15 RON, Thracian rabbit - 15 RON, duck liver stuffed with jam (!?) - 32 RON. We didn't understand any if this either in the beginning, but if you ask, you will be kindly informed and advised what to choose for you meal.

The main course - that only if you skip the classical soups - is also extremely appetizing: deer with Williams peers and gooseberry jam - 30 RON, duck in sour cherry sauce - 36 RON, bear paw - 450 RON, yeah quite a lot of money... hard to catch a bear and cook its pwas. :)
In case you like the atmosphere but you are not quite comfortable with eating a nice little Bambi deer or Bocanila rabbit, there is also a wide variety of "classical" dishes, like sopus and salads, cold snacks based on Romanian recipes - you may have heard of "piftie", "babic", "drob", "sorici"... Any bells ringing? Well it's all right, we garantee they are awesome.
Piftie is a traditional winter dish, especially during Christmas time and New Year's Eve, Romanians are fond of eating this kind of gelatine pork soup, it is like jelly but not sweet, it's made of pork, garlic and a few other things.
"Drob" is another traditional type of food we only enjoy for Easter. It is made of mutton liver and tastes great. "Sorici" is the singed pork skin, our top-favourite among all - we have an entire philosophy going around pork, I'm not going into it right now.
In Burebista you can also enjoy a great variety of fish sorts in all kinds of sauces ; wine, tartar, sour cherries, mushrooms and so on. As for dessert papanasi are way ahead anything else. If you come to Romania do everything that you can to get to eat some of these... It's beyond words - that's if you generally like sour cream, jam and doughnuts. :)

These heavy types of food go well with a fine wine, there are a few pages in the menu to choose from. The oldest wine in the cellar is a '76 Sauvignon Blanc de Cotesti - 150 RON (50 EU)
At night the restaurant is very crowded and noisy because of the brass band that accompanies good eating. You will surely want to give a call and make a reservation - +40 21 211 89 29.
The restaurant is located on Batiste Street, just across the USA Embassy, behind the Intercontinental Hotel.
