Places in Bucharest - Hanu cu Tei (Linden Inn)
Hanul cu Tei (Linden Inn) was built in 1833 in the middle of the commercial center of the city. Close to Inn Gabroveni, Manuc's Inn or the Princely Court (Curtea Veche), it is one of the most representative buildings for old architecture and also one of the few places that still preserves a certain atmosphere from two centuries ago.

It had the same purpose as the other inns at that time, to shelter the foreign merchants. It was restaured in early 1970s, and architect Constantin Joja managed to keep the authentic 19th century atmosphere by carefully reconstructing th facades, the inner yard with stone labs and windows with heavy shutters, lamp posts and old decorations. The inner rectangular yard - Spanish style - has two arched entrances with heavy iron gates which were closed during the night.

Hanul cu Tei is now one big art gallery. The 1400 sqm from the top floor are the largest gallery in the country. The ground floor has small art boutiques, with antiquities and souvenirs: paintings, drawings and ceramics.

Unfortunately not even these walls have escaped urban spam.
